Alyssa Hoyt, LMHC

So many of us lead busy lives that leave little space to breathe, think, and make choices with clarity. Many of us hold ourselves to standards that are difficult to sustain, in our careers, relationships, as parents, and as community members. We may run from day to day with an anxious stream of thoughts and feelings, or float numbly with disconnection and over-scheduling as a way to avoid pain. Sometimes our expectations, goals and circumstances come at the expense of balance, clarity, and fulfillment. I work with individuals and couples to reconnect with themselves and each other while understanding how their past experiences impact present living. We collaborate to build a foundation of skills that promote sustainable growth and healing as individuals and within relationships. I work with individuals and couples in the areas of anxiety, trauma, relationship transitions and growth, transition to parenthood and perinatal issues, peak performance, and life balance.

My approach is solution-focused, culturally-affirming, and grounded in the human capacity for growth and healing. I use elements of Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Imago Relationship Therapy to facilitate self-exploration of your strengths while building skills for sustainable achievement and fulfilling relationships. As a trained Brainspotting therapist I incorporate this mind-body based modality for processing trauma, anxiety, depression, and performance blocks.

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA, and a Master of Arts in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling from New York University in New York, NY. I have additional training in Brainspotting Therapy and experience working with individuals with disordered eating. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in the corporate and startup technology field for a decade and am experienced with achieving and maintaining sustainable growth in personal and professional life. My training is whole-person and wellness centered with an emphasis on the role of culture, environment, and relationships on wellbeing.

Therapy should be a collaborative process that provides safety to unlock your strengths, while understanding and creating meaning from experiences, relationships, and culture. Integrating our past and present empowers us to make new choices and create an authentic life. Please reach out for a consultation to see if we are a good fit to work together towards your goals.

Working with Alyssa

“Alyssa is an incredibly thoughtful therapist. I appreciate the depth of trust and psychological safety that I feel when I work with Alyssa. In fact, I look forward to our sessions because they empower me to better understand myself, enhance my emotional and mental intelligence, and enable me to live a higher quality life. Alyssa is very knowledgeable; she's shared powerful book recommendations, effectively explained complex yet insightful concepts, and coached me through meaningful exercises to implement positive change. She also finds a balance between giving me space to reflect-out-loud, while gently facilitating the conversation to introspect deeper. Her experience working in the corporate and tech sector has also helped me see the nuance in growing both professionally and personally. I strongly recommend working with Alyssa and the PPA!”

“Alyssa did a great job helping me with what I wanted to work on in my relationship. My wife and I started couples therapy to address a specific issue and we are both very happy that we are working with Alyssa. We've been doing zoom sessions for about 4 months, and there's already been a lot of progress. Alyssa is a great listener and communicator. She recommends specific things to try and read, and I really appreciate that they are things she has tried and read herself in a lot of cases. I look forward to continuing to work with her!”

“I have really enjoyed my time working with the Positive Psychology Associates practice! My therapist at the clinic, Alyssa Hoyt, has been been instrumental in helping me get curious about myself through parts work and Brainspotting techniques. She has helped me process past traumas and work towards healing internal wounds in a way that feels healthy and uplifting, not overwhelming or retraumatizing. I would highly recommend PPA and Alyssa!”
